Meditation techniques - I am not my personality

Who we really are?

We can not tell exactly. But we can tell what we are not. We are definitely not that artificial personality that we, our family and society has created for us.

That personality really helps us playing the roles we have invented. The personality helps you to be that kind of person others expect you to be. You are tied to your personality and you have to follow it by doing your usual stuff. When you do something unusual, people around you think you are crazy, but actually you just act differently than others expect. You want to be free, do what you think is best, but your personality limits you. It's like bounds. The personality is like a frame. If you wanna be free, you have to break your frame. You do not have to follow the rules of the society, but your own rules.

Your personality makes it hard for you to meditate. It is very important to release your thoughts before meditation, but how can you do that if your life is so busy and you aklways think what your next move will be - who you will be calling, what tasks to do first, what actions to make to be successful in your business, etc. How to release that? Answer is simple - by taking out your personality.

This technique helps you to go into meditative state.

Technique:

Sit in a comfortable position or lay down. Imagine that you are not what you think. All your thought belong to your personality. You always have thought that you are your personality or the personality is very important part of yourself. That is a false idea. Personality is just a mask. Personality is who you are in terms of your role in society. It is just a curtain. Behind that curtain is your real self. So when you want to meditate or relax, just imagine that you throw that curtain (read - personality) away. Imagine how your personality separates from you, so it is no longer part of you. This will help you to stop thinking about your day, tasks you have to do or decisions you have to make. All that stuff is gone for good, at least for the time you want to relax. This will help you to rest and go into meditative state easier.
